Formed in the late 21st century by the acquisition of Conrad Orbital Solutions by the Tehran-based holding company Darius Group, Darius-Conrad has been at the forefront of human extrasolar resource development for more than two centuries. In that time, the Company has been responsible for the development of dozens of worlds, with assets found in nearly every star system throughout the human diaspora.
More than a mere corporation, the Company has evolved through the centuries to become a civilization in its own right, complete with its own language and culture, although the basic pseudo-democratic corporate power structure remains intact. Darius-Conrad personnel are not recruited from without, but bred from within, each cloned with a computer-generated personality and memories designed to make him or her suited for a specific task. There is neither crime nor unemployment within the Company's holdings, as every individual not only knows its function in society, but has been programmed to fulfill it admirably and to enjoy doing so.
Although a source of great internal stability and efficiency for many generations, the Company's policy toward engineering its personnel has also been a liability at times as it has contributed to a general lack of innovation within its ranks. Darius-Conrad personnel are inclined to accept the status quo and not to deviate from established patterns, and in recent years, the Company has begun to appear stagnant, even dilapidated, in the face of some of its competitors. Few outside the upper echelons understand just how bad things have gotten in recent years; for the Company to survive another two centuries, its leadership will need to expand into unconventional territory.
Faction Advantages: Darius-Conrad's genomic tinkering with its employees gives players aligned with this faction the ability to configure their characters in ways that are simply unavailable to other factions. DC characters start strong in their chosen field, and grow stronger with advancement.
Faction Disadvantages: The Company is not a primarily military-oriented faction. The weapons and equipment typically used by its personnel are adequate, but not exceptional.
