When humanity moved into space, many of its institutions travelled with it. During the initial phase of extrasolar expansion, one of the earliest AI-owned multinationals, Omicron Systems Integrated, saw its assets expand to incorporate numerous extraterrestrial holdings, and by the 23rd century had become the driving force behind the economy of several worlds and a human faction in its own right.

Although still retaining some of the trappings of its earlier, corporate beginnings, OSI has, over the years, evolved into a form of secondary state, responsible in many places for fulfilling the services upon which society depends, ranging from initial planetary development and power generation to education, housing and "national" defense. It is not unusual for a citizen of any given planet (even some Darius-Conrad worlds) to possess two forms of identification: one granted by the state, and one by Omicron.

Despite being considered a human faction, Omicron actually relies upon synthetics to fulfill most of its functions, including the majority of its administrative and leadership positions, which are overseen by advanced AI which has been contuously developed by Omicron since its early days as a software conglomerate. Many Omicron facilities, including military platforms, are fully automated with only a handful of human personnel (biological or synthetic) on hand to supervise operations.

Partly because of its nature as an institution that overlaps many local governments, Omicron has gradually assumedthe role of a mediating force in interstellar disputes, helping to diffuse tensions between otherwise belligerent stellar governments.

Faction Advantages: Omicron personnel have access to some of the best cognitive-interface and cybernetic enhancements available anywhere, as well as superior shielding systems. They also tend to have good relations with other human and Lokri factions, except for VRTEK, who is hated by everyone.

Faction Disadvantages: Omicron's weapons and offensive equipment are the weakest of all human factions represented in Divergence, and its infrastructure on Lo is poor.
